What Rockstar has built with Red Dead Redemption 2 isn't just a vast world of splendor and beauty within which they have place random mission markers and enemy bases to go clear. Instead, this is a place that they're legitimately wanting you to live in. Can it be tedious at times? Sure. But more often than not, I think it gives me a stronger sense of intimacy with both Arthur and this setting of the Wild West, and that's something I haven't felt in an open-world title in quite awhile.

Unfortunately, the last four major releases from Rockstar Games have all been delayed to some extent. No one really knows if this is simply unchecked hubris or rather that they're so meticulous about the quality of their games that delaying isn't only an option, but vital. Rockstar doesn't simply create new iterations in their existing franchises, they create technical masterpieces that push forward the industry and take hardware to its absolute limits. Will this game be delayed into 2018? Maybe. Will Red Dead Redemption 2 be any worse because of it? Absolutely not. Having your most anticipated game get delayed is a serious bummer, but having it ship as an unpolished product that receives critical backlash would probably feel worse. Red Dead Redemption 2 's scope when it comes to depth and detail aren't just apparent in its world and storytelling but also in its gameplay, as the game delivers just as much in action and combat as it does in bringing players a sense of place and immersion. Expanding on many of the systems that we saw from Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto V , Red Dead Redemption 2 's combat expertly delivers the kind of spectacle that its Western setting provides. Throughout the game, players will engage in a variety of missions alongside the rest of the Van der Linde gang ranging from bank heists to train robberies and more, and while I don't want to spoil any of the surprises in store at all, it's easy to say that Red Dead Redemption 2 features some of the most thrilling action sequences and set-pieces that I've ever experienced in a game; they're moments that truly make the game feel like a classic Western come to life.

The same can be said for Arthur Morgan. Are there moments of intense excitement in his life such as when he's robbing a train or watching the sunset over the plains? Absolutely. But even in the life of an outlaw on the run, you still have to make small decisions about whether or not you should take a bath or shave your face.

At the Game Science New Game's beginning, a botched robbery in the town of Blackwater has deprived the gang of most of their funds and made them the top target of the law as a result. From bands of lawmen, to Pinkerton agents, to the growth of big cities like Saint Denis -- the game's stunning, New Orleans-esque urban setting -- Red Dead Redemption 2 puts the Van der Linde gang's backs against the wall, and seeing their story of survival and preserving their way of life makes for a striking contrast to what we saw from the setting of Red Dead Redemption and its depiction of the "end of the West."

Earlier, I mentioned how important Native Americans were to Western culture and how excited we are for the possibility of them sharing center stage. Another character that doesn't get enough play in the Western genre happens to be the female outlaw. In the closing scene of the teaser trailer, it seems as though the left most rider happens to be a lady. Their clothing is brighter than the other and her body structure seems to lend itself to a more feminine figure. A lot of players feel as though there isn't enough diversity when it comes to protagonists in video games. Having a leading lady that also happens to be a badass would be a great, but not necessarily a new addition to the Red Dead series. While Red Dead Redemption 2 is clearly a game that we think highly of here at DualShockers , it's not one that is infallible by any means. In fact, since its release this past Friday, the most common complaint that I have heard not only from some of my friends but fellow writers here at DualShockers is that Red Dead Redemption 2 is far too slow and plodding. Even after getting past the game's initial opening hours and having the world start to open up, traveling from one location to another takes far too long, animations are too slow, and there's not the typical intuitiveness that streamlines many of the systems and mechanics that you might find in other open-world games.
